Puebla Summer Institute (June 10-15, 2018)

Every 2 years, the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education holds an immersive bilingual institute for educators at the Hotel Colonial in beautiful Puebla, Mexico. The institute focuses on a comprehensive biliteracy model called Literacy Squared that has been designed to accelerate the development of biliteracy in Spanish-English speaking children.

Join us for this powerful 1 week institute designed to build knowledge and skills about the education of emerging bilingual Jlearners. The institute is designed for both novice and experienced K-12 teachers and school administrators.

Faculty, researchers, and professors from the BUENO Center and Literacy Squared will deliver research-based, engaging, and participatory sessions addressing some of the following topics related to culturally and linguistically diverse learners: biliteracy instruction; English language development; special education; and family and community engagement.

Testimonials

"The Lit Squared summer institute was an experience that my treachers and I will never forget. We visited a local school where the students and teachers welcomed us with open arms, food, and dance. Our visits included classroom observations, debriefings and learning more about effective strategies to teach reading and writing in Spanish. We brought all our learning to our district and continue to share our findings with teachers and administrators. The institute is a week of collaboration with other educators in the field and the chance to learn alongside the Literacy Squared team. We can't wait to attend the institute again!"
- Piedad, 2016

"Attending the Literacy Squared institute has transformed my teaching methodologies as a staff developer and education coach, impacting hundreds of teachers. I received not just cutting-edge information, but obtained an invaluable cultural experience while connecting with educators from Mexico and the United States. To the Lit Sq team, thank you for leading the charge for biliteracy, and for creating 'una union sin fronteras'."
- Monica, 2016
